FACELIFT SURGERY (Rhytidectomy)
Aging is an unavoidable fact of life, but looking old may not be. Signs of aging include wrinkles, pouch-like bags under the eyes, sagging skin, drooping eyebrows, eyelid hooding, jowls and "turkey gobbler" chin and neck. Beverly Hills Facial Plastic Surgeon Dr. William J. Binder utilizes a variety of cosmetic surgery techniques to lessen the appearance of, and sometimes even reverse, many of the outward physical signs of aging. BOTOX® and injectable fillers can at least temporarily hide or soften facial wrinkles, while facial implants and fat transfers can enhance facial contours and address some of the early effects of skin laxity and sagging. But none of these procedures alone can achieve the dramatic improvements in facial appearance possible with a Rhytidectomy or “facelift”.
Ignoring important principles of aging and facial structure, the old stretch-and-tighten facelift procedure attempted to correct wrinkling and sagging skin by pulling the face as tightly as possible which often resulted in a very unnatural, mask-like or flattened appearance.
The MULTI-LEVEL APPROACH
Dr. Binder believes a facelift should do more than just skin smoothing and tightening, but have as its goal restoring a youthful appearance to the face and neck. Based upon their age, extent of wrinkling or sagging and appearance goals, Dr. Binder takes an individualized approach to address the specific needs of each patient. The multi-level approach to facelift surgery is designed to produce results that are more dramatic, natural looking and longer lasting; all while holding down cost, physical trauma and recovery time. Like many of his other cosmetic procedures, Dr. Binder’s Multi-level facelift takes into account each patient’s overall facial structure to achieve optimal facial balance and harmony. It emphasizes vertically elevating rather than pulling backward the sagging facial tissues. In some cases, he may perform a complete face and neck procedure, but often this structural approach will address one or more aging related problems of the face in the upper, middle, lower and neck areas. He may also recommend combining the facelift procedure with a mid-face or chin implant or fat transfer.
